Legendary director Steven Spielberg has voiced strong opposition to using AI in front of the camera, calling it a creative line he’s unwilling to cross.
Speaking at the inauguration of the Steven Spielberg Theatre in Universal Studios, he stated:
“I don’t want AI making any creative decisions that I can’t make myself.”
While Spielberg remains open to AI’s potential in science and behind-the-scenes production work, he firmly opposes its use in storytelling and performance. He cited past experiences—like CGI replacing stop-motion in Jurassic Park—as reminders of how innovation can displace human artistry.
Despite his reservations, Spielberg admits that his stance isn’t permanent, but for now, he believes AI should assist, not act.
