SpaceX Signs Data Center Deal With Anthropic

SpaceX has signed a deal to give Anthropic access to Colossus 1, its large AI data center in Memphis, bringing together two of the more prominent companies in the current AI infrastructure race. Under the agreement, Anthropic will use the full computing power of the facility to expand capacity for its Claude Pro and Claude Max assistants and raise usage limits for subscribers.

Colossus 1 houses more than 220,000 Nvidia processors and will give Anthropic 300 megawatts of new capacity within a month, making it one of the largest AI data center agreements currently in view. Compute access has become one of the clearest constraints on growth for major AI firms, especially as demand rises for coding, enterprise, and subscription products.

For Anthropic, the deal appears aimed at relieving capacity pressure. The company has been dealing with rising demand for products such as Claude Code, and the Memphis facility is expected to support that next phase of usage growth. The company also said the additional capacity would allow it to improve availability for paid users, which gives the announcement a more immediate commercial significance than a typical infrastructure partnership.

For SpaceX, the arrangement gives its AI infrastructure ambitions a high-profile customer at an important moment. The company is pursuing an initial public offering and the Anthropic deal helps strengthen the case it can build a meaningful business around AI compute, not only around launch services and satellite connectivity. In that sense, the deal is useful to both sides with Anthropic getting access to scarce computing power, and SpaceX getting a concrete demonstration that its data center strategy can attract demand.
