Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced that the U.S. government has approved export licenses for its H20 AI chips to China, reversing earlier restrictions imposed due to national security concerns.
The H20 chip, tailored for the Chinese market, had been banned earlier this year, leading to major financial setbacks for Nvidia. With the new clearance, shipments are expected to resume soon, and Chinese tech firms like ByteDance and Tencent are already in line to purchase.
Nvidia is also launching a new “RTX Pro” GPU for China’s industrial AI sector, designed to meet U.S. compliance standards. This move comes amid broader U.S.-China tech trade negotiations, signaling a softening stance and a push to retain U.S. leadership in AI.
The news boosted Nvidia’s shares and marks a potential recovery of billions in lost revenue, with China accounting for around 13% of Nvidia’s global sales.
