Micron Signs Auto Chip Deals with Qualcomm

Micron Technology has signed a long-term supply agreements with Qualcomm, Harman, and several automotive parts makers, locking in orders for memory and storage components that power AI-enabled vehicles.

The deals also include Visteon, JOYNEXT, DENSO, Astemo, and Hyundai Mobis, aiming to provide stable supply and pricing for advanced vehicle platforms. Qualcomm chief executive Cristiano Amon said automakers increasingly need technology platforms that bring together high-performance computing, connectivity, memory, and storage as vehicles become software-defined.

The agreements come as the memory industry races to expand capacity to meet demand from data centres, consumer electronics, and cars. Micron, the only U.S.-based manufacturer of high-bandwidth memory chips used in Nvidia's AI processors, has been capitalising on the boom alongside rivals SK Hynix and Samsung.

Micron chief executive Sanjay Mehrotra said in June that the company had signed 16 strategic customer agreements, and he expects data centre-driven growth to be increasingly complemented by AI features in smartphones, high-end PCs, automotive applications, and robotics. The automotive agreements extend that strategy, giving Micron a foothold in a segment where advanced driver-assistance systems and digital cockpits require fast, reliable memory.

Long-term supply deals have become more common across the chip industry as lead times stretch and prices rise. For automakers, securing memory supply directly helps stabilise production planning and investment in next-generation vehicle platforms at a time when AI is moving deeper into the driving experience.
