Anthropic Releases Haiku 5.5 Before Planned IPO

Anthropic launched Claude Haiku 5.5 on October 7, the third model in its Claude 5.5 family in the past month, as the company expands its AI lineup ahead of a planned public listing (Reuters, 2026).
Haiku 5.5 is built for high-volume, cost-sensitive tasks such as classification, summarization, and extraction, including live support, voice agents, and in-app assistants. It costs 75 percent less than its predecessor, Haiku 4.5, priced at $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts under 100,000 tokens. For longer prompts, the price rises to $0.50 and $2.50 respectively (Reuters, 2026).
The model is Anthropic's first Haiku with built-in safeguards for a narrow set of high-risk cybersecurity requests. The company said most everyday tasks would not be affected (Reuters, 2026). The release follows Opus 5.5 on September 22 and Sonnet 5.5 on September 28, completing a rapid rollout of the 5.5 generation.
Anthropic confidentially filed draft IPO paperwork with the SEC on June 1, targeting a Nasdaq debut in late 2026 at a valuation that investors expect could reach $2 trillion or more. The company has pushed its listing window toward November, according to reports. The steady stream of model releases in the weeks before a listing serves both a technical and a commercial purpose, giving enterprise customers a clear upgrade path while showing investors a product pipeline that spans high-end reasoning and low-cost, high-volume workloads.
The Haiku 5.5 pricing puts it in direct competition with low-cost offerings from Chinese firms such as DeepSeek, which has built its strategy around undercutting Western models on price. By offering a capable small model at a fraction of previous costs, Anthropic is positioning itself across more of the market, from advanced research to routine automation.
