Meta Platforms has recruited Ruoming Pang, Apple’s head of foundation models, to join its newly launched Superintelligence Labs—part of CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s aggressive strategy to build top-tier AI talent.

Pang led Apple’s core AI models since 2021, managing a team of about 100 engineers. His departure marks another significant loss for Apple’s AI efforts, as Meta continues to lure prominent talent from giants like OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic.

Reports indicate Pang received a multi-million-dollar compensation package. This high-profile hire follows Meta’s previous acquisitions of engineers from OpenAI—including recruitment sweetened with reported $100 million signing bonuses.

Meta’s new Superintelligence unit is co-led by Alexandr Wang (former Scale AI CEO) and Nat Friedman (former GitHub CEO), signaling a bold move to accelerate Meta’s competitive edge in AI research and AGI development.

Stay tuned as this unfolding talent race reshapes the landscape of AI innovation and competition.
