Google is rolling out new AI Mode features in Search just in time for students, educators, and lifelong learners. These updates make learning and organizing easier—whether you're studying for exams or planning your week.

Key Features

  • Image & PDF Uploads on DesktopYou can now upload images directly in AI Mode on desktop (previously mobile-only). PDF uploads are coming soon, letting users analyze class notes, diagrams, or slides with instant AI help and source links.

  • Canvas: Smarter PlanningA new Canvas feature lets you build study schedules, brainstorm ideas, or outline projects within AI Mode. Canvas saves your work so you can come back and refine it anytime.

  • Search Live via Camera (Mobile)Using Project Astra, Search now works with your phone camera in real time. Point it at your homework or a real-world object and ask follow-up questions. It’s like having a tutor in your pocket.

  • Lens in Chrome + Follow-upsOn desktop, Google Chrome now lets you “Ask Google about this page.” Select any section, like a graph or image, and get AI-powered summaries with the option to dig deeper.

Who Gets It?

These updates are rolling out in the U.S., with desktop image uploads and Canvas already live in India and select countries for users 18+. PDF support and note-aware Canvas will launch in the coming weeks.

Why it matters: Google is turning Search into a study partner—visually intelligent, context-aware, and organised. Whether you're learning on the go or planning ahead, AI Mode now works harder for you.
