LONDON (AP) — Advanced AI is moving fast — and with it come serious risks, from widespread job losses to misuse by terrorists or systems spiraling out of control, warns a new global report released Wednesday.

The International Scientific Report on the Safety of Advanced AI, backed by 30 countries including the U.S. and China, comes just ahead of a major AI summit in Paris. It’s a rare show of cooperation between global rivals, underscoring growing concern over how to keep AI in check.

Led by leading AI expert Yoshua Bengio, the report pulls together the latest research to help governments make smarter, safer rules. “The stakes are high,” it says — noting how far AI has come, from clumsy sentences to writing code, generating lifelike images, and holding deep conversations.
