Apple is preparing to deliver a suite of enterprise-grade AI tools in its upcoming September software updates, enabling organizations to finely control how employees interact with external AI systems like ChatGPT.
What’s Changing?
Configurable AI Access: IT administrators will gain the ability to enable or disable external AI providers on company devices—not just OpenAI’s ChatGPT—without requiring major protocol updates.
Flexible Data Processing: Businesses can choose whether AI queries are processed on-device or in the cloud, depending on internal security policies and infrastructure. This flexibility is designed to align with Apple’s existing Private Cloud Compute (PCC) privacy architecture.
No Enterprise Deal Required: Even organizations without a direct enterprise contract with OpenAI can choose to allow ChatGPT access, giving them that flexibility without additional setup hurdles.
What Else Is Included?
Alongside AI controls, Apple’s September enterprise updates include:
An API for Apple Business Manager, enabling integration with MDM platforms, inventory systems, and help desk tools.
Device Migration Support: Streamlined transition of devices between management systems, which is especially useful during mergers and acquisitions.
Return to Service Improvements: Devices can be wiped of user data but retain apps, saving time and bandwidth. This feature is also extending support to Vision Pro devices.
Enhanced Shared Mac Login: A secure Guest Mode enables login via identity provider credentials, with data cleared upon logout. Plus, Macs can now allow NFC-based logins via Apple Watch or iPhone.
